The Essential Summer City Break Packing List

The Essential Summer City Break Packing List

Are you desperate for a holiday but can’t quite afford the long beach trip of your dreams? Not to worry. This morning one of the surgeons and I were talking about Dubrovnik as an up-and-coming destination. In fact, there are so many destinations in Europe that are not only accessible with cheap flight operators but offer you all the cultural sights of a city, while sitting right on the coast. Barcelona, Lisbon, Marseille – pick a name out of the hat and get packing!

Pack light, but pack well

A city destination that offers beautiful sandy beaches as well as plenty of tourist sites is a traveller’s dream, although it can be hard to pack for. Whether you like to travel like a WAG or keep it light, some tough decisions will need to be made. Sarong or sweater? Trainers or flip-flops? Don’t sweat it; we have put together a list of the essentials for any girl taking off on her dream city weekender. Take inspiration and prepare for take-off!

Sunglasses

What girl doesn’t love a big pair of sunglasses to hide behind the second the sun comes out? Whether you opt for the ultra-trendy circular lens style with a coloured glass effect, a retro cat-eye, or the high fashion oversized look, your sunglasses will be the finishing touch to any outfit. Always remember to carry a good quality soft sunglasses case with you; they take up much less space than a rigid case but will help stop your glasses getting scratched when thrown into your handbag.

Summer dress

A summer dress has to be the quintessential part of any girl’s summer wardrobe. Cute and flirty or simple and modern, no matter your style there is a dress out there which offers all the versatility that a long day requires. Pair with a cardigan or pashmina wrap for cooler temperatures in the evening and accessorise with a waist belt for a night out dancing.

Sun cream

Sun burn does not look good on anyone! No matter what your skin tone, sun damage can have devastating effects. The only way to defend against harmful UV rays is to apply sun lotion at least thirty minutes prior to going outside. If you have fair skin, be sure to use a cream with SPF 30+, while darker skinned holidaymakers can use products with SPF 15+.

Ballerina shoes

Ballerina flats are a great option for summer days. Light and comfortable while fitted to the whole foot, they are far more durable for a day of sightseeing than sandals. Brands like Peter Hahn offer a wide range of styles, ensuring you will always be able to find the right look for you. A further great thing about ballerina pumps is that they are so small and lightweight they are easy to throw in a bag and be swapped for some flip flops when you hit the beach, so you can get the best of both worlds!

Sun hat

A sun hat is an immediate glamour accessory that is both practical and fashionable. Oozing 50s cool, a wide-brimmed floppy hat gives any outfit that added ‘je ne sais quoi’ and works poolside or while out shopping. For a more laid-back look, opt for a straw boater that is light-weight and gives your jeans and tee a whole new level of cool.

Good book

What holiday would be complete without a good book? While away the time at the airport, poolside or enjoy a chapter over coffee at lunchtime. Don’t currently have a book on the go? Check out some of the best releases from 2018 that will have you gripped within a few pages.
