A ‘Home Alone II: Lost in New York’ adventure to round off 2015

Hot off the heels of our Icelandic Adventure, we decided to be massively impulive the other night and book a getaway to spend Christmas in New York, a la Kevin McCallister.

Because why not?

There are a few things I have on my New York travel list:

My London to New York Bucket List

1. Eat a hot dog on Brooklyn Bridge
2. Walk the High Line
3. Head to Top of the Rock
4. Ride the Staten Island ferry
5. See the Friends building
6. Eat a New York pizza

My London to New York Bucket List

7. Eat a pastrami on rye
8. Have ALL the bagels
9. And all the pretzels
10. Eat a traditional US of A brekkie
11. Drink at a 24 hour bar

My London to New York Bucket List

12. Ice skate at the Rockerfeller Center
13. Have cupcakes. So many cupcakes.
14. Read a book at the NY Public Library
15. Stay at the Plaza Hotel (with a little refrigerator you have to open with a key)
16. Have lunch at the Empire Diner
17. Feed the pigeons at Gapstow Bridge

Any other suggestions?

We were there over Thanksgiving (for the parade mostly) and love exploring the city. I can’t wait to get back again soon.

  • Helene Bludman

You must see a Broadway show. That is a MUST!

  • #15 is honestly my favorite. It’s a dream of mine! And I loved Home Alone II because Tim Curry was in it.
My daughter and husband went to NYC last week and had adventures. Their favorite was Frozen Hot Chocolate at Serendipity! And the Empire State Building.

  • Exploring is a good way to put seeing such a massive city.
You do have a nice list here; it has decent girth and I have made a note of this post.

  • I have always wanted to go to New York! I would love to go and see Central Park in the fall. The colours would be amazing!

  • I go to New York a few times a year and live within 2-1/2 hours driving distance. This is a great recap and some pawsome places listed. Merry Christmas!

  • Oh my gosh this will be so much fun! This really makes me want to have and adventure in New York next year.

Times square is a must. All the signs and lights are great, plus hilarious people watching!

  • I remember my first trip to NYC. I found those red bus tours to be a great way to get around town to see everything. Bagels are the best here.

  • Janeane Davis

New York is a great place to visit. I always enjoy the atmosphere, the food and the shopping.

New York is on my list of MUST SEE places. We are waiting until our kids are older before we experience NY during the holidays. YOur list is nearly identical to mine, just with more stuff!

I’d love to visit the NY library. I’ve been to the city and haven’t even stepped in there. Shame on me.

  • A day pass on the subway also works great too. The bagels are the best because of NYC water. Can’t be duplicated anywhere else.

New York is a great place to visit! I would love to go back.

  • Go see a show! Head to tkts in Times Square and you can get discount tickets! It’s a great list — especially the pretzels.

This sounds SO awesome! We’re Huge fans of the first two Home Alone films and I love the idea of this adventure! We’ve considered staying at the Plaza but its a little too pricey for us, hopefully one day though! It’s on my bucket list!

New York is a MUST SEE place! I just came back last week and visited so many landmarks we love! Your list is amazing!

As a Native NYer, I still have not done some of the things on your list. I think I will have to! I like how you matched your list to Kevin from Home Alone’s activities.

  • NYC is seriously awesome and your list is great!

    • Ah, thanks for your comment. You know what, we had such a great time we’re headed back in 2016 too!
