Am I the only one who doesn’t want to make it big and be a full time blogger?

New post over at HuffPo. Really, who would want to be full time blogger? Sometimes, I feel like I’m the only one who’s happy to keep this hobby just that, a hobby.

Who would want to be a full time blogger?

Preview: A simple search for tips on making it big in the blogging world brings up reams and reams of advice, from SEO experts praising the value of SERPs and domain authority, to bloggers who made it big doling out tips on how others can follow in their footsteps. (Well. The tips they want to share, that is. The best ones they reserve for themselves, of course.)

Yes, everyone who has a blog has dreamt about making it big. They’ve daydreamed about seeing their page views hit the millions, and their social channels full of sycophantic followers clinging onto every word, praising every post, and buying whatever it was they wore that day.

But for me, nothing sounds worse than being a full-time blogger. And I feel like, sometimes, I’m the only one who’s happy to be where I am with my blog.

I don't want to be a full time blogger

  • Nope, I’m with you. I’m all for keeping my little blog as my hobbie, and making friends with anyone who stumbles across it. It must surely take the fun out of it if it’s your job! And the pressure, oh the pressure. I’d crack.

  • No, I’m exactly the same – it’s a wonderful hobby, and having to earn an income from it would change the joy I think…

  • It all seems like a wonderful idea, sitting in your pjs typing away and attending fabulous events and receiving boxes of products to play with but I’m sensible enough to know the reality is very different. I like the fact that my blog is a hobby and I’m not beholden to the financial aspect that could easily sway opinions and/or readers.

Most importantly I think I’d miss the office banter!

    • Thanks so much for your comment. I know I’d become some kind of hermit if it was me!

      • Ha me too! I’m bad enough some weekends when I justify time spend in the flat as ‘I’m blogging’ I can only imagine if that was every day!

  • I don’t want to be a full time blogger either – it’s flipping hard work for a start, I think the preconception is that it’s all ‘being sent free stuff and going on holiday’ but it really isn’t! I like the balance I have with it as my hobby, and it means I can be very selective with what I put out there! x
